Smarter Dogs Have Smaller Brains?!🧠

What 1,600 Dog Skulls Taught Us About Intelligence

So apparently
size doesn’t matter. At least not when it comes to dog brains.

A study just flipped everything we thought we knew about canine intelligence—and you're going to want to sit down for this one (preferably next to your dog). According to researchers, dogs with smaller brains—specifically, smaller relative to their body size—actually scored higher in certain cognitive tasks.

Yes. You read that right. Small brains, big brains
turns out, brain efficiency might matter more than brain volume.

Wait, What? Small Brains = Smarter Dogs?! 🧠

Researchers from Eötvös LorĂĄnd University in Hungary examined over 1,600 dog skulls from 172 different breeds. Don’t worry—these were historical specimens from museum collections, not any recent tragedies. They weren’t just looking at size for fun either. They wanted to understand how brain size correlates with different types of behavior and learning.

What they found was surprising: dogs with smaller brains compared to their body size tended to perform better in tasks related to trainability, memory, and attention. So if you’ve got a lean, focused working breed at home, odds are, they’re not just hyper—they might be legit brilliant.
